AACN Position Statement Preventing Violence Against Healthcare Workers

Dear all,

You may have heard of the nurse in Florida that was severely injured by a patient and the recent hostage situation in a critical care unit in York County, PA resulting in 1 officer killed and 5 others shot and injured.

These are unfortunate events that bring the reality of the increasing dangers that we face everyday as we strive to provide care for every patient and support family members. At our hospital, in our HWE survey, increasing violence from patients and family members was the number one topic expressed by all units surveyed. So, it is something we all are feeling. We are fortunate that AACN is supporting us in our efforts to prevent workplace violence. I am attaching AACN's position statement on this topic.
